Rocna 10 on C28?

I added my new Rocna 10 to my 2017 cutwater 28 yesterday. I was hoping someone who also has this set up can chime in or has pictures of theirs. My concern is the point of the anchor digs in to the hull when fully retrieved. I currently have it slightly less than fully retrieved (picture in my album) but I am not sure if this is the correct thing to do.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I have installed the Rocna 10 on my R27 and love it. Sleeping is a lot easier when you trust your anchor. That said, it is longer than the stock anchor and if not retrieved slowly as it approaches the boat can swing and damage the hull. On yours you may have to change the roller bracket to a longer one or modify the position of yours. Here are a couple of photos I found online of a C30 with a Rocna15. The boat is called Salish Spirit. Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps you can find them for more info on their roller bracket through Tugnuts.

Thanks Ed. Do you or anyone else know how difficult it would be to change to a longer roller?
 
I added to Rocna 10 to my boat over the winter and had the same concerns. I replaced the bow roller with a more substantial roller assembly that adds clearance.I finished the install with Kingston Stainless Steel anchor bow roller. Purchased at Defender. I haven't used the anchor yet but when I pulled the anchor in place with the windlass the anchor fits perfect.

We have the Rocna 10 on our RT-25 Classic. I just extended the roller out to the next set of pre-drilled bolt holes and it was perfect. I glued in a section of 1/4” hard rubber to the aft end of the inside bottom track of the roller to minimize scuffing and banging while trailering. The bail is a bit tight with the Rocna 10 but it’s serviceable.
 
I have a Rocna 10 on my C28. I tightly secure the shank to the small cleat in front of the winch. This pulls it back and up and keeps it off the hull but just barely. I do have a couple of small dings in the SS plate but that is what its for.
 
I installed a Ronca 10 on my 2016 CW-28. My solution was to install a 1/2” stainless steel bolt side to side, through the tunnel, so that the chain and (when fully retracted) anchor shank run under the bolt. I also put a short section of rubber tubing over the bolt. I positioned the bolt so it holds the shank low enough that the point of the anchor can’t reach the stainless steel plate. It works great and also snugs the anchor so that it doesn’t swing around when fully retracted. The tubing keeps everything quiet and keeps the chain from jumping during deployment and retrieval.

I don’t have photos but can easily get some if you are interested.

Drilling the two holes was most challeging, but I used a small cordless drill with a short speed bore bit and drilled from the outside of the tunnel by reaching down into the anchor compartment. I then drilled the second hole with a longer speedbore bit through the first hole and across the tunnel. NOTE: First I drilled from the hatch side with a long 1/8” bit to get the location for both holes.

I was worried about the strength and thickness of the fiberglass in the tunnel, but it is very robust and worked well.

I looked at trying to have a custom Delrin roller built thinking if I could squeeze out another 3/4 inch diameter or more it might due the trick. Found a company that would do it but they wanted $350. Also looked at bolting on a different roller assembly which while a better solution was about the same price.

Instead I found all I really needed was something to protect the stainless from the tip of the anchor. For about $7 I found what looks like a rectangle non skid piece (made by Reese) about 3inch by 10 inch at Wal Mart. I cut it to fit a piece where the tip of my Rocna hits the stainless plate right between the screws that go into the gelcoat with the sides shaped the same as the stainless. I fully expected this to fall off with heat, water etc. 8 months later it is still there and looks good. The rubber is thick so it allows me to snug the anchor right up against it with no damage. Being black it matches up with the rub rail so looks like it belongs there. We anchor a fair amount and so as long as this keeps working I do not feel like I need to do anything differently.

Thanks for the tips on the Mantus Anchormate. I just installed the Rocna 10 and the Anchormate on my R23. Super easy install. The Anchormate is what made it work with the existing bow roller. Keeps the point off the boat and the anchor launches well. 20’ of chain and 300’ of rode. Should hold fine.

Which size Anchor Mate did you use with the Rocna 10?

Installed the Anchor mate over the weekend. Happy with it so far. Yes you have to get a longer roller bolt which was kinda difficult to find. The one I got is zinc as that was all they had at Home Depot. So I will need to find a SS one to swap out.

The Anchor Mate looks good. We use the Bale on the anchor roller so the Anchor Mate was not a solution for us. It probably isn't necessary to use but it is a habit of security for us while cruising. The windlass and a safety cable or line will do the job too.

Do you remember what size/length bolt you had to use for it? Thanks- D
 
We own a C28 and our neighbor on the dock also has a C28. he also had that same issue. What he did is order two 2"x6" stainless steel flat bars from Amazon for about $12. he installed them on either side of the roller bracket by drilling holes to mount the bars along side the original roller and sticking out about 3 inches. he then drilled a hole towards the end of each bar and ran a bolt with an roller from Ace hardware in-between the two bars. the whole thing coast him about 25 bucks.
