When going to the San Juan Islands we typically go through Deception Pass. A few times we have had beautiful, sunny weather until we get to the pass and then have encountered dense fog that we were not aware of even after listening to weather forecasts. So can anyone recommend a station or app that we can use to get an up to date forecast/current conditions for the strait so that we won't be surprised in the future? Thanks!

Yes, I'd like the same information..... fog is nasty and spoils the cruising enjoyment.

There is a web cam at the Anacortes ferry dock and it will show you real time conditions at the dock. Unfortunately there is not a web cam at Deception Pass but the conditions at the ferry dock should match fairly close. You can access the web cam from any of the various web cam sites. I use the Windy app which allows me to quickly check the available web cams as well and the wind stations along the route. The wind forcast graphical model is really cool as well.

My experience is that the fog burns off in Rosario later than other places in the San Juans.
It tends to burn off north to south, sometimes leaving fog all the way south to Pt. Townsend until well in the afternoon.
I would consider a quick transit of the VTS lanes to the east, from the north (Monitoring AIS/Radar and/or letting VTS know where you are) and heading home by way of La Conner

KNUW (Wibbey NAS) is less than 7 nm so of deception. Google KNUW "METAR". The metar reports current weather once an hour unless there is a significant change. The"TAF" is for forcasts. If u need decode help google METAR/TAF decode.

Pay particular attention to temp/dewpoint (nn/nn). Within 3 degrees fog likely. Check current metar and a couple of priors. If the spread is closing it's a warning.
