On Banjo we had nice canvas interior covers for the windows and overhead hatches made for privacy and sun protection. Now I am considering how to cover the 3 round portholes for privacy and sunlight protection. Currently I have a round piece of cardboard that I stick in the porthole, but I would like something better. What have others done?

Thanks

The Dollar Store sells a round mirror with suction cups on the back. They fit the porthole exactly and are easy to remove. Really nice for the head, serving a dual purpose.

I have several Ranger Tug hats that I hang over the portholes for extra privacy as night time approaches. Mind you, they need to be red for the port side and green for the starboard side... Jeff ????? 😉

Black plastic Folgers coffee can lid. If you like Red you can cut the bottom out to fit.

I went to the craft store and they sell an etching paint that you can paint on the glass. It worked very well and it looks like frosted glass. It can be scraped off with a razor blade if you ever decide you don't want it anymore. I did it on the window in the head since the ladies wanted privacy while using the head.

The round mirror with the suction cup sounds like a great idea. I will try to find one. I think the porthole is 6 inches.

Ditto... great idea, especially for the one in the head/shower compartment. 🙂

As far as frosting the window in the head/shower compartment I've always wondered why Ranger Tugs elected to frost the over head hatch glass but not the cabin wall window... just what was on their mind with this approach ?????  😉

I have used the frosting spray which you can purchase at Lowe's for several projects. It is easy to apply and can be removed with a razor if need be. Does not block any outside light and would be prefect for what is discussed above.

I miss-stated the name of the store. The correct name is Dollar Tree.

Actually, it's 5.75"... 🙂

Thanks to Joe and Robyn for the great idea. I went to the Dollar Tree and for $1 each I purchased 3 round mirrors with suction cups. They fit over the portholes perfectly. The mirror works fine in the bath room but for the 2 portholes in the living area, I covered the mirrors with canvas that matches the new window treatments. I just hand sewed the canvas on the back around the suction cups. A nice look and adds privacy and sun protection. I will try to post pictures next time I am on the boat.
