In 2024 we purchased a 2018 RT31 CB. It was in overall very good condition but had a few little quarks that have been resolved over the past year. One remaining item that I'm finally focused on is the externally mounted compass in front of the inside helm station. Somehow the compass dial came off of the center mounting pin and isn't operative - it wasn't picked up in the survey so I'm stuck with the problem. I would like to remove it and get it repaired but I don't know how to access the mount under the forward deck. I looked up at the top of the electronics access panel in the v-berth but don't see anything that looks like the compass mounting screws. I assume I will have to remove part of the liner on the ceiling of the v-berth, but would like to get some advice so I know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 2014 R29 with externally mounted compass. It is the Ritchie Voyager surface/deck mount. My compass is mounted from outside; the base is screwed to the deck. I can remove the compass by removing the 2 Phillips head screws that are the shade cover pivots. You can then lift the compass off the base.

Very good advice. Got it off easily. Looks to be in bad shape so will need to be replaced. Thanks.
