Wondering how satisfied users of auxiliary 9 HP outboard are? Also if air conditioner is adequate in the RT23.

Re: 9.9 kicker
I put a Yamaha 9.9 on my r23 aftermarket.
It’s a good motor and well balanced for the 23.
Thing is I really don’t use it . Some trolling, but mostly I use the main for trolling.
The F200 is so reliable I’ve never need auxiliary motor
I don’t think I would add it to my boat if I had to do it again.

We have the Yamaha 9.9 HP kicker and it serves us well. It has remote steering, which isn't at all necessary because the 300 HP outboard (turned off) acts as a perfect rudder when running from the kicker. The Yamaha factory rep at the rendezvous said that their outboards should not be run at idle for more than a few minutes because they suck gasoline into the oil, leading to problems. The rep said to use the kicker for trolling to avoid problems with the main engine. We self-rescued several times with the kicker on our previous boat, so I think a kicker is well worth it.

We have a 9.9 Yamaha on our R27. We plan to fish salmon with it. I tried it out yesterday and the motor moves the boat very well. The 300 Yamaha main won’t troll down to 2.5-3 mph we need for salmon. On the 27 with a tie bar between the motors the auto pilot works great when running just the kicker too. I have alway been a believer of a 2nd mode of power to get home with if something happens. The kicker will serve the purpose well. Andrew says this is the year of the kicker on new RT. I’m guessing that has something to do with installing a remote shift, tilt and throttle inside the transom. I didn’t try to see how fast the kicker could push the boat yet but I’m guessing over 5 knots. Mike

If the OP is inquiring as to how well the 9.9 will push the boat on our 25 classic it will make hull speed on flat water. With even a 10kt headwind or pushing into chop it slows down to about 3.5kts. The 25 is heavier and has more windage than the 23.

Tony,
I'll remember that in the future when I receive my oversupply of Omaha Steaks.
