Anyone found a product which works well? We're interested in protecting the rubber and keeping it looking good.

Thanks,

Bruce

Armor All, applied with a cloth. Watch it soak in

Bruce:

On a prior boat our black hard rubber rub railing faded and became somewhat chalky, we used vasiline and it did a remarkable job to bring back the dark black richness of the rub rail material. I'd only suggest this if your rub railing has lost its luster, otherwise the auto armor would most likely be your best bet.

I have been told that armor all is not good for rubber due to silicone buildup etc but do not believe it. On the boat I have now I use hull wax on the rubber to clean it and protect it. My rub rail is over 5 years old and has not faded a bit. Some of the commercially available tire dressings might work good to darken up the rub rail if it has faded.

After a year of doing nothing my rub rail was looking very faded. Someone at the Rendezvous suggested just waxing it. It took two coats and a little rubbing (very little) and it looks like new.

Turtle Wax or Mothers back to black type automotive products will also work well.

Prism polish works amazingly well for this. Shines up the stainless and makes the rubber look new.

Jim,
How could armor-all not be good on rubber, don't they make it for use on rubber tires besides vinyl?

Jim, many thanks for the tip on using vaseline on the black rub rail. It worked just as you noted, brought luster back with a nice deep black look. Have tried other products with little success, but this worked!
