Just an update, in the last month, I did a wet sand 1500, followed by 2000. Bar keepers friend on the rust stains, Then 3M rubbing compound (the Meguiars one Step compound did NOTHING), then 3M Finesse it II polish (two coats) then two coats of Meguiars marine wax. No more grit or chalky, just pure white smoothy goodness! It’s like she just floated off the lot!
What I learned is this, if in doubt about oxidation, go for the wet sand by hand. Unless you really burn in with an electric sander, you’re not going to damage the clear. It’s a minimal amount that comes off but the results are amazing! I also will be sticking to 3M products for compound, and polish. Didn’t get to try their wax because I already had the Meguiars but I’m betting the 3m wax is better too.
Now off for some 8 knot tuggin for the holiday weekend!
