Rudder post assembly leak

I have a 2017 RT 27 inboard that has a very small leak around its rudder post assembly. The leak itself is small, but I am concerned about continuing my trip up the ICW without addressing it. Could the leak be stopped without reseating the entire assembly?

The rudder post assembly should have a packing nut for adjusting and a zerk fitting for greasing.
If leaking bad you may have to repack the stuffing box but most of the time just a small adjustment and a good greasing is all that's needed. Bob

This rudder box does not use packing. It is a Marine hardware rudder box part # OBRS1.250-B. There are o-rings used to seal the shaft. There is a grease fitting in the middle of the box to lubricate the shaft and bushings. If this is not maintained the bushings can wear and cause the o-rings to leak. If it is maintained to frequently and over greased the o-rings can also be damaged. To properly repair the leak the rudder will need to be dropped down and removed. Inspect the bore of the box and the rudder shaft. If all looks good. Install new o-rings grease and reinstall. The leak will be fixed.
