I just learned about Globe Marine Products new run dry impellers and wanted to pass the link that describes them to fellow Tugnuts. My initial thought, after learning that these impellers can last longer and run longer dry then the standard neoprene style, that they may be a good option for those of us that have an R27. As we know its a project of time, contortion and scraped knuckles changing an impeller on a Yanmar in an R27. So if it is this difficult I'm thinking wouldn't we want an impeller that may be a little more durable. Has anyone had any experience or direct knowledge of the Globe Run Dry Impellers?

Sorry Mike I do not, however what I read stated that they were only slightly more then their neoprene counter part.

Chemists are a terrific bunch and they are constantly improving our consumer experiences with advances, but if you've replaced your impeller lately, it's not the old Neoprene we once knew. Yanmar Technical Bulletin, MSB 04-012, dated April 2, 2004 directs the replacement with MC97 Synthetic rubber, which was an environmental advancement at the time with increased serviceability properties. This is what the impellers of today are made of. Johnson Pumps started installing them on new pumps at that time and the replacement Yanmar impellers were improved as well with new part numbers. To expand the technical discussion, the improved characteristics pointed out in the Run Dry comparison, is as compared to Neoprene, which generally has not been used in impeller construction in the last decade. From what I read, when MC97 was introduced, it was important to note to use the glycerin and not a petroleum based lubricant when installing a new impeller composed of MC97 synthetic rubber. This brand, (Run Dry) may have a quality product and hopefully further contributors can affirm this, but needed to point out the comparison to Neoprene. Although factual in it's improved characteristics over Neoprene, is not applicable to what we currently have moving our raw water.

If you press the "more" button displayed under each impeller image, you will see the price of the displayed impeller. However when I followed the page leads to find an impeller to fit a Yanmar 4BY engine, I was unsuccessful.

In other words - you have run dry

The devil is in the details, thanks Midnight Cruise for helping dissect the impeller compositions. With that said I'm still interested to learn about anyones real life experience with the "Run Dry Impellers" on any style, make or model boat. If they are available or at some time become available it would be good to have references for the product.
