Can anyone advise if it is possible to run the air conditioning just off power supplied by the engine, or does the generator need to be running to be running in order for the air conditioning to be used?

This would be with a 2013 or 2014 Ranger 29.

Thanks.

Gordon

You will need the generator to run the factory installed AC. Some folks have installed smaller top hatch style AC units that can be run from an inverter, I believe.

I am one of those folks. I have a factory Air Conditioning that will run on shore power or the generator but not the inverter. I installed 5K btu/hr on our roof unit that runs comfortably on the inverter when the engine is running at about 15 or 20 minutes after I shut the engine down before there’s a noticeable drain on the batteries.

We run the air conditioner all the time when where in the slip. With the drapes closed and the sunshade on the front window it keeps the boat quite cool in the middle of the Florida summer days. Underway, if the Boat start cool, it keeps it comfortable.

You could read all about it on the Boat’s website:
