Hi - - Looking for some help planning a 6 day trip to the San Juans. We leave from Anacortes and on that day I was thinking about stopping for lunch at James Island Marine Park and then heading to Orcas. We'd like to moor on the south side of Orcas and do Rosario and Eastsound the next day. Would Doe Island or Blind Island be good spots to spend the night moored? If moored at Doe has anyone had dinner or breakfast at Doe Bay Resort? We're chartering a Ranger 31 - - last charter was a 27 so we're looking forward to trying something new! Thanks and any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve enjoyed many sunsets sitting atop blind island, it’s a fine place bouys and Good anchorage. Mind the rocks and shallows, they’re charted but it’s a smallish place where you need to pay close attention
Anchored at doe bay many years ago, kind of bouncy. Ate there also, at the time healthy vegetarian fare
Great soaking pools too

I second the vote for Blind Island.

We have also spent time at Deer Harbor. It's a nice marina and well protected from most weather. Very good restaurant within walking distance.

Doe Bay is very open to the weather.

Another option is Spencer Spit State Park. We prefer to moor on the south side of the spit. The north side gets rolly from the ferry traffic.

And another good anchorage is on the SE side of Shaw Island @ Shaw Island County Park - Indian Cove (near Canoe Island).
