I will be moving to Sarasota next month. Any Tug owners live there? Where do you get your vessel serviced? Is a R21 EC a good cruiser in the ICW.

Thanks!

Tim

Tim,
Can't answer about Ranger Tug owners in Sarasota, but the 21ec is a great boat for the ICW. We have trailered ours from PA to many places along the eastern US and the Rideau Canal system in Ontario. We have cruised from Punta Gorda to Boca Grand, up to the headwaters of the Peace River; explored Marco Island and Naples, plied parts of the St Johns and much of the Carolina ICW. We can get into some skinny water, and have seen some great wildlife and scenery. Planning on doing the Fl Panhandle in May this year.

Greetings Tim, I work for Wefings Marine in Apalachicola, FL and I'm in charge of service and support for the Ranger Tugs line at our company. In the area of Sarasota I would recommend Richey Boat and Motors in Hudson, FL. Steve Miglinio there has a lot of experience on the tugs and he is where we send all our tug work for that area. Are you having any issues currently with your 21EC? Call me at 850-670-8100 if so and I will do my best if so.
Sincerely
Dominic

Bill / Dominic -

Thanks for replies!

I do not own a Tug yet...looking to get one and wanted to see if the R21 EC would be large enough to enjoy ICW around Sarasota. Also was not sure if the boat would be too hot...does the AC work under way?

Dominic...is your dealer the closest one to Sarasota? How far is Hudson from Sarasota? Do the Ranger weather ok down there in the sun? Is it recommended to get a slip for the boat or lift it out each time down there? I may buy the boat from you...I don't need trailer...do you deliver?

Thanks -

Tim

Tim, we are 6 hours away from Sarasota in one of the most beautiful parts of Florida. We have a service network in central Florida that I believe is one of the best. Steve at Richey boat and motor is 1.5 hours from Sarasota and he will make house calls. We do many deliveries to that part of Florida along with an extensive orientation of the boat. The air does work underway. It's a 5,000 BTU system that works off of 12 volts. We can do a bottom job but a lift would be better if you can do it.

Dom,
I was under the impression that the A/C was only effective while at the dock. Am I incorrect in that belief? i was sure that I had read on this site that the A/C was ineffective, or was a drain on the battery system while underway. Please advise. I am looking at the 21EC and would want the A/C if it were effective both underwayand at the dock (shore power), as I have a winter home in Naples and it may come in handy at times, as you know.
Thanks,
Pete

When I bought my R21-EC, the factory told me the air conditioner would only work at the dock. I did not want to pay that kind of money for something that would only work at the dock. The A/C uses a third set of house batteries. I had that installed for an inverter. I think I will move my refer over to the third bank to get longer run time on battery. I do not get much run time if I run the refer and the Garmin Anchor Monitor at the same time.

I have oscillating fans that work well, and I have a 12v box fan I bought at West Marine that works great for moving air when we are sleeping at anchor. So far, we have not seen a real need for A/C here in the mid-Atlantic. The fans have sufficed.
