During a survey on my 2016 30CB the surveyor questioned the crushed area and scorch marks on the insulation just above the exhaust elbow. Is this something to be concerned about and if so what is the factory correction for it.

This is not uncommon. On my boat, an R-27, I simply made an aluminum plate about 9" X 9" and put 4 holes, one in each corner. And screwed it into the hatch material under the insulation. I screwed it in tight enough to compress the insulation a bit and provide a little airspace between the plate and the engine. Make sure you use a screw length short enough so as not to come through the hatch.

I used an “Oatley Flame Protector” material to protect the underside insulation of the hatch cover from the hot turbo housing. This a sheet of flame-resistant cloth (mat), about 11”x8”x1/4", normally used to protect nearby wood structure while using a torch to solder plumbing fittings i.e. to prevent the torch from setting the structure on fire. I fixed the material in place using aluminum duct tape.

On out C30 the sound insulation directly over the exhaust elbow has been cut and removed. I can't show a picture, but the cut area was maybe 4 or 5 inches square. i have seen the same cut out on other C30 boats. It might be worth checking to make sure the are has been cut out of your boat, and if not it would be worth consulting with the factory as to whether the insulation should have been removed. The process to cut out and remove the insulation is simple and quick, and cut out area was covered and by an appropriate tape. I believe this is the way the boats come or came from the factory.
