This may be so obvious that I just can't see it....... But - I replaced the scupper flappers and the flap angles away from the sealing surface about 3/8 of an inch. If I turn the flapper around and mount it back in the tube, it is tight against the sealing surface. There is only gravity pushing water out of the scuppers, understanding that if I'm taking waves over the transom, there will be LOTS of water pushing through the scupper flap. I'm just not sure if flap should or should not be sealing against the sealing surface. Would appreciate your thoughts/experiences.

The scupper flap should seal against the fitting. We frequently flip ours over if it starts staying off the seat. Same is true for flapper type check valves. The one on our aft bilge pump has to be flipped once a year. They will generally last for years if they are not exposed to direct sunlight. The water from the drain will easily push it off the seat as long as it is mounted in the correct direction of flow.

Great tip, Pat. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the reply. I will make sure they seal and check them from time to time.
