The sea strainers for my washdown, HVAC unit, and generator on my 2022 R31 are mounted in such a way that it is close to impossible to remove the strainer for cleaning, they are mounted so low I cannot get my hand on the strainer to loosen the cup and the hose 90º connections were turned in such a way they force the cup against the mounting plate requiring two hands or a wedge to permit turning the cup. As presently mounted they are below the waterline.

I keep my tug on a lift and when I lower the boat I never have an issue with suction, whether I shut the petcock or not when I lift the boat.

I will be installing new sea strainers and I am wondering if it is better to leave the strainers below the water line or mount them a bit higher above the water line? The new stariners I plan on using have a top access for cleaning the basket and a bottom screw ease in priming if necessary.
