Well spring seems like it has finally arrived in the Chesapeake! We bought our Ranger 21EC in December. Sea trials and deliver scheduled for tomorrow!

Hey, good luck and have fun. We bought our R-25SC last November and the weather here in the northwest has been so crapy with too much wind and more rain then I like that we didn't take her out much. But with some sun appearing through the clouds and only a little wind, we're going to do sea trials as well. But the sea trials aren't for the boat, they are for me. I've had a number of sailboats over the years and this will be new for me, learning how to steer needing a motor (sailboats will turn motor or no motor), learning how to use the trusters (just learned that I should use the stern truster to steer).

Outboards need the engine to steer because they have no rudder. The inboard powered Ranger Tugs have rudders, so will steer as long as there is water moving across it. The rudder is smaller than on most sailboats, so the steering won't be as strong, but it will steer. We only use the thrusters for close quarters maneuvering.

The R-21EC has a HUGE rudder and is very effective at low speeds. The very tight turning circle is awesome to have.

With rudder hard over and then a little push with the prop will turn/orientate the little R-21EC to port or starboard quickly.... and of course the bow thruster can be used for more precise maneuvers. I always enter my slip stern in with a starboard tie up....Easy-Peasy.

The R-21EC is a lot of fun and very obedient. 🙂 😱
