I'm trying to get the air conditioner to work on my 21 EC but seem to have a problem with the water intake pump. It doesn't work. The seacock is open, the blower works but no discharge from the unit. Any suggestions?

I had this same problem on our R27 last winter. The remedies could be several options including checking the sea strainer to make sure it is clean and not obstructed, if so does water come out of the discharge on the side of the hull? If so you may have a freon problem. If no water comes out you can try to do two separate tests. Close the seacock, take the hose off of the inboard side and run water into it and see if water comes out of the discharge opening on the side of the boat. If so there is no obstruction here, if not then you have an obstruction that needs fixed. If this does not work or correct the problem you may have a diaphragm inside of the pump that has gone bad. This is what happened on our boat and the pump needed to be replaced. I hope this helps in some way, please keep us posted as to the outcome.

When I got the boat mine had a plug of 'something' in it. I cut the intake hose at the sea strainer and added a Tee and a shutoff valve so that I could screw a water hose on and use dock water pressure to flush the air conditioner with fresh water at the end of a trip.

When I turned on the water that first time the hoses got hard, then there was a loud POP and something rocketed from the hull outlet into the water and disappeared.
The AC has worked just fine since then.

The point of this blarney is to point out that the presence of the Tee and Valve allows me to flush the AC with fresh water and/or put antifreeze into the line, effortlessly. Being that the boat goes from freezing weather and back, this is a major convenience. It is 19 degrees this morning.

I'll try connecting the hose to flush out the system to see if that does anything. When I turned the unit ON I watched the sea strainer (which was clean) but no water was coming through the tubing. I did get some sweating on the coil so I think the compressor part is working but without water running through the air was less than cool. Also I figured the water pump would make some sort of noise even if the diaphragm was broken but it is silent. The pump may be bad. I'll have to check this out further to see if it's getting power. Here is Florida I'm going to need that AC soon. Thanks for the information. I'll keep y'all posted on the outcome.

It could be just that the AC pump has lost it's prime. Disconnect the outlet side of pump and turn pump on . Should be a strong discharge.
