Just conducted my first test on system to cool boat using seawater!
I used a old cooler as a test vessel, about 2 cubic ft of space note a R-21 is about 150 cubic ft.
Using a 3 1/3 in radiator with a 3 in fan hooked up to irrigation water with a temperature of 73 degrees out side temperature was high 90's and temp on top of metal cooler was 103 degrees, after running system for about 30 to 45 minutes the inside temperature of cooler was 80 degrees.
Will do more testing prior to spending all my allowance on it. My thought is to pull cool air from fwd bilge area under bunk where its cool due to water next the hull, tap into flushing water for the toilet and discharge using the overboard discharge, no hull cuts! System will be placed fwd of toilet and will consist of radiator, two fans, a water pump and filter. Space available is 18" X 12" with out losing any cabin space which is limited on the R-21. When finished will be trimmed out and look like a louver door vice looking at the toilet, and toilet will still be functional.
Will keep updating this boondoggle. Bob

Very interesting concept. Please keep us posted.

Do not think it will work in Florida with 87 degree water.

This system will not be effective with water temperatures above 70 degrees, however water temperatures in the PNW are generally below 68 in rivers and about 60 or lower in salt water.
Any thing is better than nothing! I did look at a after market auto air conditioner, but was not able to hook the compressor to engine due to lack of space. I'm still working on a prototype for testing on the boat. Now you know what happens when a guy has too much time on his hands and a creative imagination. Any positive criticism is welcomed, the negative criticism can be forwarded to my wife!

I just bought a free standing evaporative cooler to try. Will advise. 41” tall.

Evaporative cooling is only going to work out in the desert southwest areas with low humidity. And seawater cooling will only work with areas known to have cold water temps. Neither of these things happen on the East Coast, except maybe parts of New England. Some of the Great Lakes have pretty cold water too.
