Coming back from Princess Louisa Inlet this summer we had an unnerving experience. South of Thornmanby Island and just off Merry Island we hit a large area of water thick with big logs, small sticks and seaweed. Halfway through the patch the boat started vibrating noticeably. I cut power immediately. With any forward movement attempts we had vibration. Didn’t take long to deduce that we had seaweed tangled up in the prop and possibly the rudder too.
I really didn’t know what to do. We sat motionless for a few moments. My partner came to the rescue. She had experience from her teenage years boating with her Dad. “Put her in reverse!” she suggested. Well, it took just a minute or two to clear all the seaweed off the prop in reverse!
A close inspection a few days later when the boat was on the trailer showed no damage.
Just another example of why I’m very happy to be cruising with my partner!
