Planning to install a second bilge pump in Tugly (2007 CR21) . I would like to be able to activate it with the empty switch located between the right and left wiper switches. Pump has a 10 amp max draw. Will that switch handle the load?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, the switch isn't the question but the size of the wire and the fuse that's involved. The length of the wire run is a factor too. That's quite a pump if it draws 10 amps...

Thanks Charlie,

I believe that the switch is already hot and is on the same line as the two windshield wiper motors. I will run as big a wire as needed(right now I am thinking 12 ga) for the 12 foot run to the pump. I guess my worry is will that line carry the windshield wipers and the pump at the same time. If the conditions are right to use the big pump, it will also be wiper time. We use Tugly mainly on the ocean and I am concerned that a following wave might poop us. If that did happen, the little 500gph may not have the volume to pump us out. The pump is a TMC 1750 portable with the outlet at the top. I plan to keep it in the locker most of the time and only get it out when necessary. I am mounting it down in the access hole just above the prop shaft. I will run the hose over the side. Simple and is not in the way except the 5% of the time it might be needed. Also by dropping it over the side, I will have running water to wash down.
In progress pictures in my "Odds and Ends" file.

I also have a what I would call portable all ready to go as needed but rigged mine with clips to attach right to
the battery. It can go on another boat, over the side or pump where ever needed. Rule 3700 as I remember.
