I can't remember where I copied and saved this post from a boat security conversation. But the idea of using one of my old cell phones was intriguing.

"I’d seen an app called Alfred cctv .

This app takes old phones and as long as they are connected to internet you can log into your gmail account and it connects your old phones used as cameras and you normal phone as monitor .

I’ve set two phones up for when we leave . Both have motion sensors , one is pointing at my solar charge controller . This one will tell me if something is draining the battery , ie bilge pumps . It’s also pointing at the MIW box this will let me know it’s connected .

The other is pointing at my companion way .
If anyone comes aboard , it will immediately notify me and record them . I can actually talk to them and say something like “ get off my boat “
So if you have to leave your boat your covered."

Where is your boat kept ? -- Marina slip, at home, on the hard in a yard, etc. Did they break into the cabin somehow and how ?

Sorry to hear this.... what a bummer. 🙁

Both times at the dealers compound , they broke the cabin door glass and damaged the door frame . Luckily I hade removed all the fishing gear .

I am curious if anyone has experience with Siren Marine products? I am a new owner of a barely used 2014 Ranger C -27 and having a blast with it. I am fortunate to live on the water with a dock right behind my house. I tried to have my "boat guy" install a Siren system, but he was uncomfortable with it. The Siren Marine system appears to have most of the remote warnings a boat owner would want. J

Of course, the real problem here is that if a person is intent on burglarizing there's not much you can do with passive monitoring to stop them. Cameras can be used for sure, but then all that's necessary is for the bulgar to wear a mask or hood of some sort. Possibly one of the best detergents is for a VERY VERY LOUD siren to go off, but that has to be OK with the marina or whomever. Maybe a device that causes the boat's horn to sound for a reasonably long time as they are very loud might work for you.

In your case does your insurance cover you in any way ?

Siren is great!

We use an Amazon Cloud Cam on the boat as the free plan includes enough recording. This does require 120v power, so the boats shore power needs to be connected, and a good WiFI signal available.

With Siren, we monitor the following -

Motion in the saloon

Opening and closing of the pilot house doors, and saloon door

All Bilge pumps, and cycle counts. We receive a notification based on the number of times, and length of times they run.

All High water alarms

Shore power connection

Fridge & Freezer temp

Temp of the Saloon, Pilot House, Forward Stateroom, and Engine Room

4 separate battery banks

And all of it has no dependency on Internet or power. The unit has a built in cellular connection, and battery in the event shore power is disconnected or house battery bank dies.

Although you have an annual service fee (125$ for a summer season, $180 for 12 months) it is a small price to pay for peace of mind, and having a complete view of the boats "health"remotely

Highly recommend!

Would a system like the ring doorbell work on a boat? Has motion sensor, night vision, alarm, you can talk to whoever is in your boat, battery operated, video on your phone with alerts, and a lot less expensive that other systems. Has any one used one at home and maby could comment?
Personally I like the Smith & Wesson system but that requires you to be there !

Have the Ring Pro at home. While great at being a doorbell, I personally don't think it would be a good fit for the boat.

It would be awckward to mount, and for the night vision you have an external "power booster" box

Simply safe system?

I put recently installed a Siren Marine security system and it works great. There are a number of optional sensors for monitoring different aspect beside security.

I just looked into the Siren Marine Security system. Looks to be a good system, unfortunately, it uses ATT for the carrier and where I live, ATT coverage is terrible to nonexistent so this won't work for me. 🙁

Jim: Where did you read this system requires AT&T as the wireless carrier ? Thanks... 🙂

Hmmmm $25/month for the service is required or $29/month on a month to month basis. There's no need for AT&T or Verizon, etc as the company handles this aspect so I was told just now via online enquiry about this.

They won the Pacific yachting best in show award , it’s a lot cheaper than the $1k per door I’m on number 2 !

You might want to check out
Mobeye i110 GSM portable alarm unit

If you go to their web page and read their FAQ's. They say the system uses a Vodafone SIM which uses the AT&T/T-Mobile network. You don't need AT&T, but the unit uses it.
