The first mate and I are having a “discussion “ about what’s the best sleeping position; head bow first or feet bow first. I’d like to hear what others are doing . Don’t be shy.
Curled up in bed.

I dislike feet first but find it the better option for sleeping, not for dismounting. We have added a hinge to the forward cushion so that our feet don't feel trapped underneath. Simply flip up the cushion for more leg room. 🙂

Feet forward, under the anchor rode locker. This was during the TV install. We’ve managed to create a pretty comfortable space.

My wife and I have a C24 and we sleep opposite of each other. I sleep head and shoulders towards the bow and she sleeps with her feet towards the bow. I sleep on the port side as it has more leg room. Not enough room with both heads and shoulders together and this way works for us.

R27OB. We sleep with our heads towards the bow. But sort of diagonally across the V. I sleep along the port side and she is parallel to me. We use the wide part of the birth on the starboard aft corner for extra pillow and blanket storage foreasy reach during the night. Works really well.

R25 Classic. We keep the "filler" piece permanently in place in the vee berth so it's a solid mattress side to side. We also have a 4 inch memory foam topper. We sleep with feet forward. Have done it this way on every boat we've owned including living aboard a sailboat for 7 years. It is awkward climbing in/out but is less claustrophobic feeling. If I lay down by myself for a quick nap I tend to go in headfirst.

Occasionally I'll make a trip with a couple of other guys. On those trips I remove the filler and mattress topper. I sleep upstairs so I can maintain anchor watch without disturbing everybody and put the guests in the vee berth. Left to their own devices I find all the people I've taken out seem to naturally sleep feet forward.
