My wife and I live in the Napa Valley. We are considering buying a Ranger 29 tug in the future and would like to meet other tug owners. Our game plan is to keep the tug at the Napa Marina and use her on the SF Bay and Delta for some of the year. Our plan is to then take it to the Pacific Northwest, back east to to the Tenn-Tom, Chesapeake, and ICW and do this periodically and as the budget permits. We think it would be a lot of fun to fall in with other owners to do these trips and additionally, to meet up with other owners in our area (either by boat or on land). So, our questions to the readership: are there tug owners in the SF Bay Area and Delta areas? If so, are there any group activities like the ones outlined above that involve Northern California boaters? We would appreciate feedback either here on the forum, or our email: travelmutts@gmail.com

Thanks,
Stu & Sue

Stu and Sue, you're most welcome here at our pier on the mid Chesapeake Bay just about 5 miles up the Potomac on the Va shore. Power and Water at the Pier for you, we've already hosted Russ and Toni on a 27 and would like to see a 29! Plenty of water in the Creek! Put us on your list of place to visit on the Right Coast!

Stu and Sue,
Welcome to the world of Tug Nuts..... You will find that when you purchase your R-29, you are not buying a boat, you are buying into a very large family of people who love their tugs. It's not a boat, it is a lifestyle!

You pose an interesting thought when speaking of a "rendezvous" in the Bay Area. It seems to me that the Napa River would be a great central location for a "Bay Area Rendezvous" as it is convenient to the Bay as well as the delta. There are a couple of questions though on this area.

How much guest moorage does the Napa Marina have?
Is guest moorage in one area of the marina or is it spread throughout the marina?
Is there a hotel within walking distance?
Are there any R-Tugs currently moored there?

Again, welcome to the "family"....

Thank you Charlie, David & Maureen, for your replies to my query. The day will come when my wife and I will be cruising on the Chesapeake so you will have an overnight guest, Charlie. Thank you for the offer. David & Maureen, you raise some interesting ideas. When I originally mentioned "rendezvous" I was thinking in terms of tug owners (Ranger and others) getting together frequently to socialize. It could be something easy like owners driving to a central location and having lunch or whatever. But your idea of a Rendezvous on a much larger scale sounds really interesting and fun. The Napa Marina might not be the best place to stage an event as it is in the boondocks with no restaurant for miles. There are better locations no doubt and that could be researched. The larger issue for us right now is finding and buying a suitable boat. When that happens (hopefully soon) then we'll start the process. In the meantime, thank you for the warm welcome.
