Shore Power Recepticle

Closing on Ranger 21ec this week. Shore power Recepticle is OEM 110, 15-20 amp. Marina says everything must be screwed on, like normal marine 30 amp (Hubbell or Marinco). Anybody replacy this recepticle with locking or Smart Plug Recepticle?

Just went to SmartPlug myself, upside: quick quick install, even matched the old screw holes, much more positive connection both from the boat to the plug and from the plug to the power cord and clearly more contact surface.


Downside: cost but I didn't subtract the expense of just replacing with the old technology so that would be the true cost. Also, I didn't have an existing power cord to put the new style male plug on so I had to buy the complete cord which doubled the cost you likely face.

I have seen a few boats with burned connections at the boat due to a plug loosely connected or corroded blades. The Smart Plug ensures a solid connection with little chance of loosening up. I would go with the Smart Plug.

I also added smart plug just a couple weekends ago - really easy install - maybe 15 minutes... nice, watertight connection between cord and boat - wish same was available on the other end (dock pedestal) at my slip!
