Can someone explain how to clean this on my 2015 R31-CB? thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff,

Assuming you have a similar one that my 2016 C-30CB had in it. Mine was the "v1" rule shower sump box, which required feats of great acrobatics to get the 4 screws off the cover in order to get at the inside of the box to clean it. Mine had a float switch failure last winter and my dehumidifer in the head that was draining into it caused it to overflow into the bilge. Not a big deal thanks to the weep holes but I ended up replacing it with the v2 box, which uses clips vs screws to secure the cover, and is a better design overall. If you don't mind the $100 expense, i'd suggest just upgrading the box with the new version:

https://www.amazon.com/Rule-Shower-Drai ... 1403&psc=1

If you don't want to upgrade it, you just need to remove the 4 screws I mentioned above and remove the interior screen and clean it. You may also want to run some soapy water through it to clean it and/or some bilge cleaner.

Jeff, I took my shower sump box completely apart to clean it and unstick the float in the Rule float switch. I'll send you pictures.

This may help too:

On my 2012 R27, the Rule-A-Matic Plus Automatic Float Switch is fastened down in the sump box with two screws. One screw (closest) is fully captured (360 degrees) by a plastic flange. Remove this screw. The other screw (out of view) is NOT fully captured and its flange is shaped like a horse shoe with an open side. You only need to loosen this screw a turn or two by feel and then you can slide the switch away from the screw to free it. Assumes you have a similar fastening configuration on your switch. HTH, Gary

P.S. If you look real close and quick in that video you will see the horseshoe flange and not need to remove the entire screw.

Jeff.....
On my '21 R31, I remove the front v-berth cushion. Turn yourself into a small contortionist, semi climb in and remove the clipped on cover, keeping in mind the orientation. Jiggle and pop the screen out, clean, and reverse the proceedure. I found that liberal applications of blood and "F" bombs smooths the process. It's also very important to check for leaks whilst holding a beer afterwards. (Any beer with the word "Lite" in it's name will cause the float to stick and your friends to make fun of you).
Alternatively , bring the boat to Poulsbo tomorrow and I'll help you. (drink beer, not clean the sump)

Thanks Steve for my morning laugh while watching the sunrise on Kauai! This did remind me I need to do mine soon. But not too soon. I have a few more non lite beers to drink and waves to enjoy!

Steve, we’ve met. Way back when (Seattle boat show 2018 I think). We’ve traded a few emails since. But I had no idea you were so hilarious!! Good ‘on ya!
