How do you remove the float in the shower sump pump tank. The screw on center of tank on float and the
Wiring I get. However the end of float next to sidewall will not come loose.
Thanks
George

Hi George, i believe the float switch is screwed down, assuming you have the old version rule box i have in my 2016. I just had a problem where mine was stuck and not draining my dehumidifier water - caused the box to overflow. I am replacing they whole box with the newer model. You can jiggle the float with your finger to see if it works, if not, then i would just upgrade the whole box to the new version.

On my 2012 R27, the Rule-A-Matic Plus Automatic Float Switch is fastened down in the sump box with two screws. One screw (closest) is fully captured (360 degrees) by a plastic flange. Remove this screw. The other screw (out of view) is NOT fully captured and its flange is shaped like a horse shoe with an open side. You only need to loosen this screw a turn or two by feel and then you can slide the switch away from the screw to free it. Assumes you have a similar fastening configuration on your switch. HTH, Gary

P.S. If you look real close and quick in that video you will see the horseshoe flange and not need to remove the entire screw.

I completed the box replacement project today. It was easy as far as skill level, but not as far as available space to move around down there under the bed. Photo link here:

Happy to lend any help you might need.

Thank you all for the info. Have to try to loosen that back screw to slide and remove. Where did those who replaced tank get the new one?

Thanks everyone, the back screw was difficult to access however finally got it loose with a couple of turns and slid the float out for replacement

A very useful thread indeed...I got to the boat and the sump pump was running constantly. Thanks to the video, I decided that I could get the screws out and remove the Rule 401 float switch. I now have to see if the float switch can be cleaned up and work or I need to replace it.

Replacement of the float switch was not easy, but, much easier than a lot of other repairs on this boat. Once I pulled the old switch and checked continuity, it was clear that the switch was defective. Nonetheless, it was still satisfying to hear the pump turn on/off when reconnected.

I'm surprised that a 3 year old switch, that was rarely used and ran fresh water, would be failing. I've had float switches submerged in a salt water bilge last over 15 years...but, I understand my feeling on today's quality of manufacturing are out of date.
