OK, I have the large u mixing elbow on my 4JH4-HTE yanmar on 2008 R25. It has 2 6 sided plugs recessed. What type socket will fit in the plugs to remove? Needless to say I'm not mechanically inclined. I can't figure out the type of socket and what it is called. I already removed the mixing elbow and cleaned out most of the carbon buildup ( light coating) but the plug removal tool has me scratching my head.

Mr. Jimbean, in situations like that I would just take the part to your local hardware store and ask for the proper socket for removal, that way you will get the proper one to fit! By the way I believe they are called hex sockets but not sure, they do come in a kit for various sizes and once used will lay in the bottom drawer of your tool box for years until you need again where you will find they have disappeared! When the kids at the local hardware store know you by your first name you know you've made the ol-goat hall of fame! Bob

And why do you want to remove them? I believe they are there for other applications and not for yours. I would go with the old adage, if it works, don't fix it.
