We haven't picked up our new R21EC yet as the options are being added but in the mean time we are putting together our semi-permanent mooring system. We have purchased a Rocna 15kg anchor, an 18" Flotat (through chain) buoy and next will likely get some 1/2" (bottom chain) and 3/8" (rode) chain. (Our buoy will be set in about 30' of water). Lastly we are trying to ask a ton of questions and read what we can on the subject of pendants.

At this point we are thinking Yale Polydyne pendant(s) (polyester jacket over nylon core). We would like to have a double pendant system, each pendant being a different length.

If we go this route, can any R21 owners tell us what is the maximum thickness of pendant material that the R21 will accept and in your opinion would a 12' and a 15' pendant be suitable for the R21? (Seems what we have researched suggests that when using a two pendant system that different length pendants are used).

Thanks...

Can any R21EC owners tell us what is the maximum diameter of rope that can be used to fit through the bow chocks and onto the cleats?

Thanks...

Hello Sheral

1/2" fits the chocks and with chaffe protection be tight but doable.

I've switched my dock lines to 3/8" cuz they fit better especially the single center bow cleat.

Note that you will want to stow your anchor to avoid it becoming entangled in your mooring lines with subsequent chaffe and wear-through of your pendant. The chocks are rather closely space at the bow.

It's not clear to me about your 15kg rocna..is it your primary anchor or the anchor for your mooring setup? I have the Rocna 6kg on the bow of my 21EC and couldn't imagine going any larger.

David

Thanks David.

The 15 Kg Rocna is for a semi-permanent mooring set up as there is no where else to moor here, ie; no wharfs etc.

At this point the anchor package that comes with the boat will be used when we are out and about.

Another little glitch in trying to find good pendants! The people that splice pendants all seem a little concerned about using 1/2" or 7/16" rope (which they say is more suited to boats up to about 16'). So now I am wondering how many Tug owners have moored their boats to a permanent or semi-permanent mooring using the bow ring / tow hook? Using the tow hook a much larger pendant material could be used....

Thanks David. Lots of good stuff there...

Maybe we're making this into a science when it should be kept simple but we have seen too many boats on the beach and crashing into each other. Yikes!

We're trying to do our due diligence on each part of the mooring. We ended up going for two NER Cyclone pendants hooked to one NER 3/4" three strand pendant. Right now we are trying to find out who makes a good or better swivel for the rode. Seems to be a million opinions on mooring setups...
