Can the factory tell me the following things...

1) Size of the fresh water tank in gallons
2) Size of the water heater's tank in gallons
3) Does the the 'size' for 1) include the size of the water heater's tank capacity ?
4) When I fill the fresh water tank via the fresh water filler does water go into the fresh water tank and the water heater's tank ?
5) If 4) is true, and fresh water tank's capacity is 40 gallons and the water heater's tank's capacity is 6 gallon (for example) would this mean I could in theory pump 46 gallons via the fresh water tank's filler when both tanks are empty ?

Thank you. 🙂

Hi Barry,

The R27 OB has a 40 gal potable water tank and a 5.3 gal water heater. Your 'usable' water will remain 40 gallons, as you need cold water to push into the water heater in order to get hot water out.

The water heater will fill once your potable water pump is switched on.

Tim: Thanks much for responding so quickly with the info I wanted.

As I recall, this water heater capacity was left as an open item when you delivered the boat to me last August. I must admit, the 5.3 gallon number is a bit odd. No matter, I now know. 😀

I'm curious to know if the 40 gallon tank becomes empty and I activate the water pump would it draw water from the water heater which presumably would be full ?

It will not, due to there not being available water to 'push' into the water heater. Also, you would be running your pump dry at that point which is not recommended. The hot water heater is listed in liters, yours happens to be 20 liters, which comes out to just about 5.3 gallons.

Thanks Barry,

-Tim

On my R25, when the water tank is empty, the pump pushes air and hot water still flows out in spurts.

My hot water tank and all new tanks are “tempered” so some cold water is mixed with hot water to avoid scalding. That tempering fails when the cold water is missing, 180 degree water spurts out. This isn’t as serious on ob boats.

Remember to switch off the hot water heater until you fill the tank or the element may burn out and create a possible shock hazard.
