I have a 2017 Ranger 29S and the skylight above the port side passenger seat has a heavy leak (I tested it with a hose and I know the leak is coming from the seals). I purchased the boat a year ago and not familiar with how to treat and maintain the skylight seals.

What material is used to seal the skylights? It seems there is an outside perimeter sealant, as well as a different sealant underneath where the skylight window was adhered to the boat.

What is the best way to replace the outside sealant? Does it need to be removed entirely before re-applying it? If so, what is the best way to remove it? Has anyone done this before?

The seal is a rubber epdm self adhesive strip. It can be purchased at Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-K...M-Medium-Gap-Weatherseal-Tape-V25GA/100081207. You can remove the skylight screws and remove the unit. You will see the strip on the back of the frame. I found that sometimes the issue is when the strip was installed the bend around the corner was not made properly and it shrinks and looses contact and hence a leak.

Thanks for the reply.

I am referencing the skylight, not the hatch windows that open and close (I did have a leak there and can confirm the adhesive strip works that you recommended. I used it). The seal around the skylights looks to be dried out in parts.

Here is a picture of the skylight. I am using ducktape until I have a fix :?

You could bed in UV4000 and not worry about the seal tape possibly.

That looks fine from here.

Summer is coming; it should be a long three weeks.

Not a warranty issue?

I heard back from Ranger Rug:

This one is pretty straight forward as well, the seal you’re looking at there is a product called Sikaflex 291 (black). It comes in a standard size caulking tube. All I would do is remove any pieces of the existing seal that are loose, clean the area very well using some denatured alcohol, then reseal using the Sikaflex. You’ll also want to be sure to tape off both sides of the seal to keep your line.
