We rebuilt our marina and new code in our area requires 30 & 50 amp service. It's nice to step up from only 15 amp and just being able to plug in the battery charger. Anyhow -- back to the topic. I was thinking that a Smart Plug cord would be good now that I'm playing with 30 amps. The replacement units for the boat and plug-in (no cord) are available here, but not the 30 amp 12, 25 or 50 foot cord with the Smart Plug end installed by the manufacturer. According to the chandlery I was hoping to purchase from -- after a call to the manufacturer -- the likelihood of the Smart Plug getting certification for the unit in Canada is a couple of years away -- if the manufacturer wishes to pay the heavy fees required for certification up here.

Certified electrical contractors in Victoria can install the Smart Plug ETL -C approved device for you. This is standard work for them they are trained for you can rely on. I would encourage you to ensure any installer is registered with the BC Safety Authority.
