The Des Moines Marina fire last week got us thinking about the importance of an early warning system. We'd like to install a smoke detector high on the cockpit wall just under the bimini, where it'd be protected from rain and salt water. Does anyone have experience with how exhaust from initial engine start or outdoor placement might affect false alarms and overall performance?

Depending on where you place you BBQ, the smoke getting under the canvas might set it off.

Good point, Don.
