We had such a great time cruising the lower Columbia and Willamette rivers we have decided to do the upper part this fall. Our plan was to launch in Umatilla and do a round trip to Lewiston. Based upon some prior posts I am trying to plan my fuel stops. Anyone know if there is any other diesel fuel on the water upriver from Kennewick? So far Boyer, Hells gate Lyons ferry say no. Just curious as to what others have done?

I suppose we can reverse the plan and launch with a fuel tank in Lewiston. I just wanted to exhaust all other options first.

Thanks!

No fuel docks on the snake river that carry diesel that I'm aware of till you get to Lewiston/Clarkston !
Fuel distributor will deliver but the cost to deliver over water is ridiculous, you might think of extra fuel in cans or a bladder. Or have someone that can deliver to you at one of your stops. Bob

Bob,
Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know if there is any fuel on the water in Lewiston or Clarkson?

The new owner at Boyer said he was going to try and get diesel fuel at the resort and shuttle it down to the docks, but that is all dependent on the county allowing him to put in a tank. I've talked to Cenex the distributor out of Lewiston and they said they would deliver at a decent price. Two things you want to keep in mind, make sure they are delivering red or non taxed fuel. And if they don't/won't then get someone from the Washington side and then you can get your refund on road tax back from the state and at .45 a gallon it adds up quick! I always buy it from a station when ever I pull my boat and go somewhere else. And this option might be cheaper anyway since the two towns compete for business. Costco has diesel (and always the cheapest) and it would be possible to have a couple of cans and carry them about 3 blocks back to the boat. Look on a satellite map and there is a long dock you can moor as long as the cruise ship is not there. Read my post from last year when I did the Snake, it is worth the trip. And stay closer to the up river side of the all locks going up.

Scott I could not find any diesel fuel on the water at lewiston Idaho or clarkston Washington. The only ones that will deliver is Centex out of Colfax Washington but they have a minimum of 500 gallons!
And are booked up to two weeks in advance due to the farming demand. I talked to the port authority in Clarkston and they were unaware of any fuel pumps having diesel in the area. Off road diesel (Red) is readily available at most dealers but you will have to search for them. I would recommend one of those collapsible hand carts a nice fuel can and call a uber driver! That might be your best option.
I'm not saying there is no diesel fuel on the water, but I have not found any!
It sure is hard having fun sometimes, but if there is a will there is a way! Bob

Just a update cenix out of lewiston will deliver but not to the water and has a minimum of 100 gallons!
They are only about 3 or 4 blocks from hells canyon marina and just over the bridge from Riverview marina hope this helps for your planning.

This is very helpful. Never having been to Lewiston it sounds like there are a couple feasible options with fuel jugs as I won’t need all that much fuel per my calcs.

Now I just need to decide if how slow to go to carry the fewest jugs or drive the extra 2 hours and start in Lewiston. Thank you all for the info! Really looking forward to this trip.
