Active Captain has a Defender special on Shockles line snubbers. I'm in a brutally rough marina in San Francisco and use a small tire as my snubber, but was thinking about getting a couple of these for times when I am either on the hook or in a more gentle marina. Looking for feedback--positive or negative--before spending the $. Looks like I need to get carabiners to make this work.

Thanks

Jeff

As far as anchoring goes, snubbers are usually used if you are using chain all the way. I let out enough line that I am using my 8 plait anchor rode and I tie that off to the cleat in front of the winch so that there is no pressure on the winch and the load is at the cleat. If I had to use snubbers while docked at a slip I would probably look for a better protected marina. Then again, you may not have a choice.

When anchored on chain you can use a mooring line to the chain tied with a rolling hitch knot, put the strain on the line and tie it off to the cleat. There should be slack in the chain from the line to the boat, this eliminates the jerking feeling of the chain and you now have a snubber for free. 😀
