We have the Yamaha 250 on our R25OB. I’m wanting to take the prop off but the largest socket I have is 1” and the nut is larger than that. Could also be metric. Does anyone know that proper size socket I’d need for my project? Probably a good idea to have onboard anyway, in the event the prop is damaged.

27mm. I also recommend pairing this with a 16" breaker bar, 1/2" drive.

Best to have a block of wood also to block the prop from spinning as you tighten or loosen the nut.
I use a 2x4 cut to about 8 inches.

Need spare cotter pins too. Don't reuse them.

Would also want Yamlube marine grease to coat the spline when replacing the prop.

Lastly, this tool is worth its weight in gold. Cotter pin removal tool.

We also have a video that illustrates taking off and putting on the prop. Start at the 7:00 minute mark.

1 and 1/16th” socket (1/2” drive) fits. Same size as water heater rod in an RV.

Thank you gentlemen. Good additional advice on the cotter pin Martin. I’ve got the breaker bar and torque wrench already so I’m almost good to go.
