Hi all;
I have recently installed a 190 watt solar panel on the cabin top so as to be independent of generators or shore power when cruising Desolation sound, the Gulf Islands, and the San Juans. It may seem like a lot of watts, but with solar panels now costing about a third of their price from only a couple of years ago, I decided to go with the larger panel.
I also bought an MPPT controller. This type gets as much energy out those photons as possible. I connected it to the house batteries, as the starter and thruster batteries don't need much charging when at anchor.
I bought all of the equipment at http://www.papsolar.ca in Burnaby B.C. Great prices and great service. (I'm not affiliated in any way other than being a satisfied customer). Total cost was under $700.
I've posted pictures in my album.
Cheers
