Solar wire connections

What is the proper name of the electrical connector type on the solar wires from the stack?

I believe the ones we've seen on our panels are the MC4 male/female connectors.

Nope. These look like a push/pull pin connection.

my boat (2012) was not wired using MC4 connectors. the wire run through the roof was wired straight into the junction box on the panel. as such when I replaced the panel I cut the wires and installed MC4 connectors to make future connections easier.

also pretty much any sizeable panel now comes with MC4 connectors

MC4 connectors are easier to install and service with the specialized $12 MC4 Tool available at Amazon and elsewhere.
