Anyone have some insight into Fluid Motions new brand - Solara Boats? Definitely a Livingston owned company selling rebranded Cutwater 24 models. They also have a unique 30 foot boat that looks like it has a C-30 hull. Per the Solara website, Kenny Marrs is leading the Solara customer service team.

My uninformed guess (after spending about 60 seconds on the Solara website): Cutwater will stop making the C-24-based boats (including the center walk-around and dual console) and Solara will take over that segment of the lineup. Cutwater will focus on the new 288 and up.

I know almost nothing about the boat industry, manufacturers, etc so keep that in mind.

EDIT: I spent more time and my alternative theory: Solara will become the premium brand - they come standard with lithium batteries, auto-pilot, cameras, etc instead of building up from a list of options.

Brian,
I’m guessing you are correct with the premium brand thought. The S-250 DC has the same physical dimensions as the C-24 DC but a number of upgrades. Those upgrades and the Solara badge run you an extra 50 big boat bucks over the stock Cutwater.

There's one thing we know for sure... the new Solara will not come with a solar panel made by Solara....

I asked my dealer about solara. He said they were the “ open series “. I’m guessing they are the none cabin cruiser type, made for the south east

Hi all,

Solara is our new luxury adventure brand and the third in the Fluid Motion family of boats. Some of you may recall that the Livingstons manufactured a boat under the name Solara in the mid-2000s before Ranger Tugs really started to gain momentum. It was a sporty, full-featured runabout with a stepped hull. There are still several of these early Solaras around. Occasionally they pop up on the used market and they're gone as quickly as they appear. It was a great boat that was ahead of its time.

As Ranger Tugs started to gain popularity in the mid-late 2000s, Dave and John Livingston made the decision to shelf the Solara brand to free up manufacturing space for Ranger Tugs which was showing a lot of promise at an early age. Our “trailerable trawler” concept hit at just the time and Ranger Tugs was setting the trend and pace in that new market segment.

When production ceased on the early Solaras, John and Dave knew they wanted to return to the concept when the time was right. Today, we feel the time is right. We’re excited to roll out the new Solara models. You'll be hearing a lot more about them in the coming months. The model lineup features several trailerable sport, cruising, and fishing designs.

All Solaras will be sold fully outfitted with equipment and features that would traditionally be offered only as options. The new Solara models also offer several new performance features like, electric steering and autopilot, auto-leveling trim tabs, stern and bow cameras, forward and aft facing led flood lights, and docking lights.

You will start to see Solaras at select east coast boat shows this Fall. More info to follow on that! The Solara website is http://www.solaraboats.com

It looks like an identically configured C-24C (cockpit shade, autopilot, macerator, underwater lights, TV, AC+rev cycle heat w/lithium) is $20k more than a S-250C.

Other than cameras, what does that $20k get you? They look basically identical, otherwise...

The Solara 250 seems to be the old Cutwater 24 with its older hull. I'm given to believe that the new Cutwater 248 has a new improved hull that is a bit less tippy. I like what they've done with the Solara in some ways, but is it from this perspective an out of date product or does it match the hull of the new 248?
