We left our marina in Marathon yesterday, and were out in the Atlantic for the first time. We were guided to Sombrero reef by some new friends that came with us from the marina . It was an experience of a life time for both Jodi and I. It was Jodi's first time to snorkel. We had never been to a reef before....I highly recommend it. So many beautiful fish and crystal clear waters. We also saw dolphins and two sea turtles on the trip home.. There was another Ranger there which I wasn't able to catch the name of. I just wanted to apoligize for not getting over to say hi before they left. What a great spot 🙂 We hope to get back again soon.

Our opinion is Sombrero and many of the other reefs in the area are some of the nicest we have been to. We are embarrassed to say that after traveling all the way to Austraila and diving the Great Barrier Reef we wouldn't go back because the Keys were just as wonderful.
Can't wait to land in Florida on 12/29!!

We will launch Santolina at Marathon Marina on Monday, Jan. 19. Any other Rangers in the area about then? We expect to stick around for a day or 2 before heading out. We have never been to the Keys before, so suggestions will be appreciated. One item on our to-do list will be to find a good weather window and jump from Key West to the Dry Tortugas.

There is a great public boat ramp at 33rd st. it is on the gulf side, if that is any help. . If it is not too rough I would really suggest you look at the reef. There are mooring balls. If they are full, just hang around.... people coming and going all the time. Will be great to hear about your trip to the Tortugas. I am on the fence about that trip after talking to some boaters here. Can turn into an extended visit.. but I guess if you worry about everything, you never leave the marinia 🙂...

Sounds like we may have to get a Ranger Tug trip to the reefs. Kismet arrives to Marathon mid February, currently in Boca Raton and heading to Ft Lauderdale. Kathy and Gregg if you don't have a place to store your trailer and or truck check with Knights Key RV and Campground, just before going onto the 7-mile Bridge, we stored our trailer and truck there 2 years ago.

Sounds like an impromptu rendezvous is brewing ILLUSIONS AND ROAM will be arriving in Maration the last week of February.

We have extended our stay at Marathon Marina, with planned departure of Feb 25. The current plan is to take 2-3 day excursions to various keys west of Marathon, returning when the weather turns sour. It appears that our paths might cross with Kismet and Illusions, as well as other Rangers and Tugs. Let us know when you arrive in Marathon and we'll try to get together. Yes, indeed, an impromptu Ranger (and Cutwater) rendezvous is brewing.
