Need some help from anyone in the Florida area. I am hoping to make my way south next fall- winter either by water ( preferred ) or by trailer and wondering where to park for the winter. Unfortunately I will not be able to stay all winter but the tug would, so thinking somewhere where it could stay on the hard for part of the time. If anyone in the area could give me the name of some marina's that are reasonable would be great. Not looking for the Ritz but clean and easy access would be great...
Thanks

Irish Mist,

Check out Salty Sam's Marina at Ft. Myers Beach. I docked my R27 for 4 months there Jan-Apr, 2012. They have modern, floating concrete docks and dry, stacked storage. Most of the marinas in southwest Florida do not have floating docks. The marina also has parking for a trailer next to the marina. Access by the Gulf or by land with a trailer is very easy. Many folks consider southwest Florida to have some of the best cruising in Florida, with easy access from Ft. Myers Beach to The Keys or northwards towards all the attractions from Ft. Myers Beach to Tampa Bay and beyond.

I will be in the area again beginning Jan 2013 for 4 months, but my R27 will be docked at a nearby condo slip that I bought (Boardwalk Caper Condos). My wife and I like the area so much that we bought a condo and expect to use that area as our cruising homeport.

I concur with Dale and Karin about Florida's West Coast being great for cruising, anchoring and exploring. With that said I have two additional options for the west coast and one on the northern east coast, all places we have stayed.

1. Turtle Cove Marina in Tarpon Springs http://www.turtlecove-marina.com

2. Calusa Island Marina in Goodland (gateway to the Everglades and just past Marco Island) http://www.calusaislandmarina.com

3.The Marina at Otega Landing in Jacksonville on the Ortega River http://www.ortegalanding.com

All offer something unique depending on what you're looking for and where you want to be. It appears you now have a homework assignment to research. If you would like to see any photo's click on our blog address below and type in one of marina names in the search box.

Thanks Guys
I spent many winters in Fort Myers Beach and always liked it there. Was for some reason thinking the east coast but the Gulf makes perfect sense... I need to work less 🙂

I would also suggest looking into the Fort Myers Municipal Marina in downtown Fort Myers. It is ideally located for both intercoastal and beach cruising. Downtown Fort Myers has been completely restored with lots to do,and the attendants at the marina are extremely helpful and keep the place reasonably clean. It is however a municipal facility so keep inb mind it will not be the Ritz. Jerry Geisenheimer
