There has been discussion on this forum before about a Ranger Tug '23' that would have a little larger and wider cabin than the 21' with a separate head. I have seen, and like, the plans that someone had done and posted on this site. Hopefully the speed would be a little faster (Cruise at around 10+ knots) and maybe incorporate the Cutwater rear bench seat into the design.

My question to the factory is this, "Is there any consideration in making this in between boat? With a starting price around $75K?"

Thanks,

Mike

Does anyone know how to find the link to the thread with the 23 design concept?

I would be interested in that design myself.

I think I've posted some desires along that line. A big problem is a ten knot cruise speed, unless the vessel came with an excellent planing hull capable of planning at that speed. Semi-displacement hulls need more hp for a given speed. A 23 foot version of the R21 would be larger and heavier requiring a larger engine using more fuel, etc. Looking at prices increases and changes in the Ranger line since the introduction of the R25, I doubt a $75,000 price is possible.

Just one opinion. 😱

My Rosborough RF-246 is close to that concept. Fuel consumption at slower speeds, 7 to 8 knots, is low, 1.5 to 2.8 GPH. Starting pushing for 10 knots, consumption goes up fast. Once planning, and around 15 knots, consumption is very efficient, in fact 3800 rpm 14 to 15 knots, is the most efficient cruise speed, but fuel consumption is nothing like a R21EC. Price, $160,000 and up. At least there's a number of good used boats on the market.

Still, I'd like to dream for the R23EC with a 10 knot cruise and a $75,000 price. 😉

I would also like to see a 23EC. One of my big concerns or questions is would my Nissan Frontier with a towing capacity of 6300lbs still be able to tow it. I would not be interested in the 23 if I had to add the cost of a 3/4 ton diesel to the cost of the boat. Lots of people have a 1/2 ton pickup. What would this boat weigh roughly?

Look for the topic entitled "Cutwater 30." There is a good discussion about the R22 (or 23). Not sure how to post the actual link...
