Having the survey, haulout, sea trial for a 2016 RT 27 in two days. Boat has 1000 hours on the engine. 1400 hour service has already been done. Any tips on what to look for? Been wanting a Ranger Tug for a couple of years and finally pulled the trigger. Can’t wait to get it.

Make sure the rudder has the proper left-right articulation. I am personally aware of a 2016 model R27 in my area that was built with the rudder actuating arm inside the stern of the boat incorrectly placed. It was purchased new and after the manufacturing error was discovered, Fluid Motion, the maker of Ranger Tugs, arranged for a local shop to correct the rudder arm position. It took nearly a year because no shop wanted to take on the job. Then after the first shop contracted to do the work botched it BADLY, a second more competent shop had to fix the botched work.

A few years ago, there was discussion here on Tugnuts of one other 2016 R27 manufactured with the same error. Fluid Motion corrected that one as well.

I’m not trying to scare you, but it warrants checking. They are great trailerable cruisers. I’ve had my 2012 R27 for nine years and have trailered it and cruised all over the eastern U.S. and southern Canada.
