Hi my boat is out of the water having work done and the engineers have noticed one of my trim tabs is longer than the other (also leaking)

The longer one doesn’t allow the tab to lie in line with the hull but does give me angle when extended.

Should I install shorter replacement or longer units? What is the spec from the factory?

Are they Bennett tabs? Is the "longer" one fully retracted and not looking longer because is is a little extended? If no one has an answer for you I would contact Bennett. They are very helpful. Also, if it is leaking, many times o-ring replacement may be all that is needed.

Bennett makes two length cylinders 11 3/4" and 13 3/4 " the one you want is 13 3/4". I have seen installations of 11 3/4" on Cutwaters. They may have grabbed one of each when installing them on the boat. The shorter length along with the fact that Fluid motion mounts the trim tab planes higher than the Bennett specification does not give enough enough trim angle. You will need 13 3/4 ". I would also look into having drop fins installed to the planes.

Hello,

Not the exact size in 2012 but according to the parts list in 2014 we were using a 12"x12" plate but was a complete kit that was provided by Bennett Marine, we do not carry individual plates or rams. Here is a link to the kit we were getting then https://bennetttrimtabs.com/product/sta ... b-systems/, it looks like the kit should have 13 3/4" rams. That is odd that one is longer than the other. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
