Hello,

I seem to not reach the speeds I hear others achieve or that is on the spec sheet. My max speed (fully trimmed nose down) at 3550 rpm is 17 knots and crushing speed at 3000 rpm is only 12.5-13 knots. From the spec sheet I understand it should be 23 knots at 3700 rpm and 15 knots at 3000 rpm.
My tests has been in salt water in the ICW and on Lake Erie. It was not much difference.
Do you have some ideas of what can be done to achieve a better performance?

Regards,
Patrik

There are a lot of factors that can play a role in the speed of the boat. I will start first by saying when the boats are tested most have roughly 50 gallons of fuel with full water tanks, two people and some light gear.

That said, things to consider while monitoring and comparing performance would be weight added to the boat (everyone is different and this can be vastly different between boats), growth on the bottom, bottom paint and even wind/tide directions. Some may have no bottom paint a clean bottom and going with the tide and or wind and get some pretty good looking numbers.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply Statton. I agree with your variables. I have tested the speed under most of these conditions and the numbers vary some. Current and wind I normally eliminate by going towards and then away and take the average.
I still do not get close to the specification or what other boats see.
Would you say my speed is “normal “? Has there been any changes to the boat/drive train/ prop for 2024 that might contribute? Can you share the test data when the boat was tested in factory before it was shipped out?
Thanks,
Patrik

If you can send me your HIN I can try and look that up!

Thank you. That would be great. It is FMLT2912A424.

Hey there, I was able to pull up your test sheet and with two people, gear and 40 gallons of fuel the boat maxed out at 3700 RPM's with a speed of 26 mph.

Sorry, I have been traveling.....

That is so strange, 22.5 Kn! I have the data from the Volvo mechanic 3 months after I picked up the boat from the dealer.
2700 rpm = 10.3 Kn, 2800 rpm=10.9 Kn, 2900 rpm=11.7 Kn, 3000 rpm= 13 Kn (we stopped there). This was about the same configuration you mentioned with the exception that the bottom was painted.

6 months later and fully loaded with dinghy and bottom paint, I had 17 Kn @ 3550 rpm. Still 5.5 Kn off even if the rpm's were off by 150 rpm.

I have to do some more tests but using max rpm it might not be too far off. I normally do not go up to 3700 rpm. How careful should I be? Those few times I go fast I normally max out at 3000 rpm.

You would have no issues cruising up to 3200 or a little over. Those Volvo engines do great and like to work hard.

Thank you. I just a had a chance to test her again. At 3000 rpm I got 13.5 kn, @3300 rpm 16.4 kn and @3500 18 kn. 3500 was max possible. Does that sound right? Dingey on board, One person, more than normal tools and things as I have been out for 5 months. Still seems like it should be closer. I will also inspect the trim tabs. It seems like they are working but I imagine it is a big part of the performance.
