Speed Seal impeller cover plate package

.. some time back the Speed Seal cover plate was discussed and I was wondering what the experience has been for those that installed the package and if users are still impressed with their use .. there is another version called the Speed Seal Life which takes it another step with a "bearing" surface between the inner face of the cover plate and the impeller .. the claim is that it gives up to 10 minutes to shut things down if water stops flowing or slows, without damage to the impeller and possible bits and pieces getting to the heat exchanger .. I was considering sending for one or the other for the 3ym in my new to me 21 Classic .. Thanks for any comments ..Rob

There are more than a few of us here on TugNuts who have purchased the SpeedSeal Life kit for our Yanmars. I installed mine about 20 engine hours ago and have been very happy. The quality of the components is evident and if you order from the SpeedSeal website you will speak to Alex the owner of the company. He was very helpful in providing additional information about his product and how to properly install the impeller along with the SpeedSeal Life kit. The other advantage to ordering from the website is the factory direct pricing is the best on the Internet. I ordered 2 extra thumb screws for the cover plate as well as 2 additional sets of friction discs as spares when I ordered my kit.

I installed the Speed SEal Life on my 21EC with Yanmar 3YM in March. So far, after about 15 engine hours use I like it. I initially wondered if those big thumbscrews would vibrate loose...but no signs of that. No leaking or drips from the new cover plate. So I'm a "would buy it again" Speedseal customer.

Eric on Tuggertoy found that ordering the Speedseal products direct from the company is cheaper than the aftermarket online place I found (toadmarinesupply.com).
