I have 2 questions.
1st >>> I have a 2010 R21EC and can't get more then 5 knots out of her even when I am the only one aboard. The boat is not kept in the water and the hull is clean. I know she is not a speed boat but 5 knots. Is this normal or is something wrong.

2nd ...Can anyone tell me where the fuse for the right windshield wiper is located.

I guess start with the obvious..

• Is the engine running properly and making full rated RPMs?
• Is there any obvious prop damage?
• Is it the correct prop?
• Is the prop key missing or damaged, so the prop is spinning on the shaft?
• Have you checked the transmission for proper fluid level and function?
• Is there possibly a trolling valve installed on your boat that is engaged?

I have a 2009 21EC with the 3 cylinder 30 hp Yanmar diesel. I would first ask what is your WOT RPM? With transmission engaged you should be getting around 3300-3400 RPM. At WOT with 2 people on board 3/4 fuel and normal "baggage" I will typically run 6.5-7.5 knots. I typically cruise at 2500 RPM at a speed of 6 knots give or take depending on conditions. At what RPM are you getting 5 knots? Do you flush your engine after being in the water? I will run WOT for 10-25 secs when flushing and can get 3900 RPM with no load. This helps blow out any carbon deposits and can add RPM.

Check your prop. Is it ok?

I'm not sure of the location of the wiper fuses, can't help there.

If the 21 is the same as a 27, the wipers have circuit breakers. Just above the wiper's on/off rocker switch you will see a soft rubber cap (nipple), under which is the breaker reset button. If the breaker opens it can be reset by pressing on the rubber cap.

Yes this is how the 21EC is rigged. There IS a "park" fuse in the block in the bottom of the STB console at helm station. Raise pilot seat up, open door, get down on your knees, look inside compartment in a FWD direction...you will see the fuse block. There is a PARK which serves ALL three wipers on the bottom row, third from left. Double check that - the wires should be labelled.

As others said regarding "Speed" -

-What are the WOT RPMs the correlate with the max speed of 5Kt?

-Is there any vibration in the transmission, drive shaft, or helm?

-Has the propeller been 'serviced' or removed for any reason recently?

-When did your 21EC last attain a 'normal' speed (such as 7.5-8.5 Kn) and/or WOT RPM of 3300-3600?

-Do you know the model number of the (probably Acme brand) propeller?

Hi all: My vessel is around the same vintage. I have no issues with speed/RPM and I cruise around the same parameters with no dramas. I generally sit on about 3000 RPM when transiting, sometimes slower when trolling or just loitering, but never go above 3400, unless it is an emergency. What are your thoughts? Also, I have now learned something: I always wondered what those rubber caps were for. Amazing! Regards, Stevan

After reading this post I did a few speed/RPM checks with my 2014 R21..450hrs..
Conditions were calm seas and no current..

2000 RPM-6.2 Knots
2500 RPM-7 knots
2800 RPM-7.7knots
3000 RPM- 8.4 knots
3200 RPM-9.6 knots.

3200 RPM is max on my boat. I've made no changes to factory set-up..

One more thing, again rather obvious and prop-related. Check for weeds, plastic or any other foreign matter that may be wrapped around prop or shaft. Chances are, if this is an issue, you would feel some vibration, but not always. A quick check if you're not anxious to get wet is to perform a couple quick reverse open throttle runs and see if that doesn't unwrap the matter from the prop/shaft.
