SOoOooOO, last night husband and I spent our first night in our new (new to us) Ranger Tug. I had a fun, he said he did not get enough sleep. Not sure if it was cause our feet touching each other (or kicking each other) or all the new sounds he heard.

We bought this boat from a lovely couple and Debra gave me some excellent advice. She said when hosting others it is 6 for wine, 4 for dinner and 2 for overnights. She was right! Now with that said we do plan on keeping the 25SC but maybe in a few years, after we get our experience in boating and the Mancub is off to college we will get a larger tug like the 29. No regrets, much laughter was had spending the night on the boat. Looking forward to making many memories.

Congrats on your first night in the new boat! If that night was at a marina, just wait 'till you spend the night at anchor... your husband will hear plenty of new sounds. 😉 If the weather comes up, I have a tip for you for a better night's sleep: just before you turn in, say to your husband, "I sure hope that anchor holds!" He will be up all night at anchor watch, while you get some good sleep!

Your 25 is plenty of boat, and great to learn on and grow with... may well be all the boat you'll ever need.

Enjoy!

I also did not sleep well the first few nights on the boat. Worried about everything. I also complained about my wife's feet touching me! 😱 We now sleep like logs and just push each other's feet out of the way or move to another position.

As stated, the real challenge is sleeping when swinging In a tight anchorage with other boats swinging around, shifting winds, and rocks that seem like they are always getting closer in the dark!

You'll get used to it.

Congrats! We just got a 29 and plan tomorrow night (Sunday) as our first night. Haven't slept on a boat in over a year. Will take some getting used to again I am certain.

Our record is 98 consecutive days and nights on our 25SC this past Winter cruising FL. You will figure out storage issues and become inventive. A 3-4"memory foam topper on the V Berth cushions is a great improvement in sleeping comfort.
Have Fun!!

I also did the 4" memory foam topper in my V berth and my joints have stopped complaining.

One more thumbs up for the memory foam topper. Without it we didn't sleep well. With it we sleep better than at home!

Many years ago we trailered and sailed our F-24 trimaran all over the West coast and inland as far as Montana. We developed a ritual that let us sleep well (most of the time). We'd get to our destination a couple hours before dinner and darkness, drop and set the anchor. We would use the compass in our binoculars to take fixes of features on the short. Then we'd spend time cleaning the boat up after the sail and then onto making dinner. If we hadn't moved by the time dinner was over we felt pretty confident that we wouldn't be dragging that night (barring any major wind increases or shifts of course.)

Just back from two weeks of anchoring in some crowded anchorages in the Caribbean. I slept a whole lot better because I used The DragQueen app on my iPhone. It is free and, if properly operated, works fantastic. Your mind plays tricks on you at night when you are sure you are dragging and this app corrects the problem. You set the anchor location when you drop it and then, based on how much rode you have out and where in the boat you have the phone, you set the radius of swing. An alarm goes off if you move outside the radius. It is a great app and got us out of bed twice when we started dragging. Better was when I would wake up worrying about the anchor, I would just pick up the phone and see how far we were from the drop point. Then roll over and resume snoring. Highly Recommended!

Thanks for the info. I will certainly give that app a try. I've tried a couple in the past but always ended up sticking with the anchor alarm. That was in the Lowrance days on the C-Dory. How does this app compare with the Garmin?

This app is better than the Garmin alarm for one simple reason: it does not require having your battery-hungry Garmin nav system on all night. And you can leave it next to your bed for easy checking anytime during the night. Give it a try. It's free.
