Still new with all this. Trying to drop all my anchor chain out while on my trailer, to add depth marks. Can I operate the windlass without running the engine?

yes, I'm not sure which battery is used to power your boat's windlass. My boat uses the house battery. House battery switch on, activate windlass switches.

Our R27 Classic has the windlass on the Thruster battery so it needs to be on. No need to run the engine.

Great thanks.

You shouldn't need to run the windlass to get the chain and rode out.

On my 31CB I lift up the spring loaded keeper on top of the gypsy. Then I lift the chain out of the gypsy and I can pull the chain and rode out of the chain locker by hand.

I usually tie the anchor back to the small cleat with a short piece of line, so that it stays in place and then lay the chain and rode out on the foredeck.

Not working....Does the ignition switch need to be on?

There is a breaker that needs to be reset if tripped. I'm not sure where it is located in your boat. It is behind helm in Cutwater.
