I’m pulling my 2017 25SC for bottom paint. While it’s in the yard my boat bottom maintenance guy suggests replacing the hinges on the trim tabs - which he says are corroding. The boat yard wants to replace the trim tabs complete with hinges rather than just the hinges….I guess because of the corrosion. I’d like to order the two tabs with hinges from the factory. Price and part number please?

The stainless exhaust collar is corroding badly so we’d like to also replace that part while the boat is in the yard. Price and part number please?

Thank you,
Chris

Trim tabs are made and sold by Bennett Trim Tabs or any marine distributer. The tabs installed on the R25 have the trim cylinder offset from center. You may have to drill the mounting holes. The trim tabs are made of 304 Stainless steel and require protective anodes to be installed if used in salt water. The tabs should last much longer than 6 years. The trim tab planes and hinges are stand alone, they are not bonded to the boat so the only way the planes are protected is by the anodes mounted directly on them. If not protected they will fail sooner. If the tabs were painted with a Copper bottom paint with no isolating primer between the anti fouling copper paint and the 304 SS this will also cause the material to fail sooner.

Exhaust thru Hull should be bonded. I know my C26 and many R27, R25, R29 and R31 C28 and C30 this was not done from the factory. This metal is in the water and unprotected. It should be bonded. This will help prevent it from damage.

In either case, installing a galvanic isolator will not help if it is not bonded.

The exhaust thru hull is sold at:

Agree with BB on both counts. I found the small anodes that come with the trim tabs to be inadequate and totally gone after pulling the boat out of the water. I added pancake zincs to the trim tabs which are working great - all you need to do is drill one hole thru each one. My exhaust fitting was also corroding until I bonded it with the rest of the boat. After calling Bennett in June, in regards to the failure of my tab switches, they were helpful but directed me to Amazon as their parts are no longer available directly from Bennett. Yamaha purchased them and, unfortunately, they do not sell direct.
The link I posted above is for a 12 x 9 complete tab and is $ 120.00 I'm not sure which size of tab your boat requires, but hopefully, this link will get you started. You can also search Amazon for Bennett Trim tabs parts.
Hope this helps.

If you are going to the effort and expense to replace your complete trim tab SS assembly I’d suggest you consider getting the size tab recommended by Bennett. Not all Fluid Motion boats left the factory with the size recommended.
Per Bennett: “A starting point for sizing trim tabs is obtained by providing at least one inch of span for every foot of boat length. A trim tab with less surface area must be deflected to a greater angle to provide the same amount of lift as a larger tab at the same speed. The larger tab is more efficient as it will present less frontal area to the water flow thus producing less drag than a smaller tab deflected to a greater angle.”
We used 12x12 tabs on our R-25 Classic and found them (with drop fins added) to provide adequate performance. Using 18x12 tabs with drop fins for our C-28.
We have always had pancake zincs on the trim tabs and replace them annually or more often as needed.
