On my 2015 R25sc, I’ve been having a problem with maintaining an adequate amount of steering fluid. 2 different mechanics at 3 different times have searched for leaks but haven’t found any. Nonetheless, after filling the fluid at the helm and/or bleeding the line and then filling fluid, it’s been necessary to add additional fluid after about every month or so. Before adding fluid, wheel goes at least 12-14 turns lock to lock; after adding fluid about 6 turns. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you loosen your steering pump after taking off the steering wheel you will likely see some oil residue at a seam on the pump which in our case lined up perfectly with a seam on the bulkhead allowing fluid to escape into the unseeable. Replace your pump problem solved. Good luck.

Hi bauerbach,

Ethan has it right. Most likely you have a leak at the pump itself that may not be visible without removing the pump. If that is not the case, you will need to check the steering lines to see if there is a leak anywhere along the run. You may keep an eye on any steering fluid working its way to the bilge, as that may be an indicator that you have a leak in a line that is working its way down. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf

Thanks to both of you.
Ralf H. Can you get me the exact brand and model number of the steering pump that was put in the 2015 R25sc? That would be very helpful if I do need to get a new pump. Thanks!

Certainly. The helm unit is the Uflex UP28FM pump.

Cheers,

Ralf

I know this is an old thread but can someone tell me if Is this the same unit that’s on the 2021 R-27ob
